Obituary: Mrs. Essie Lee Alford Summerlin
Mrs. Essie Lee Alford Summerlin of Geneva went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center & Nursing Home. She was 78.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Darlington United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Geneva directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Mrs. Summerlin was born April 12, 1936 in Walton Co. FL to the late Henry Clayton and Beulah Collingsworth Alford. She was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Jesus Christ Tabernacle Church and. Mrs. Essie was a Godly lady who lived to serve the Lord. As a pastor’s wife, she served alongside her husband for almost 20 years and ministered to people by giving unselfishly of herself. Her family and church were her life blood.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Rev. Leon “Jack” Summerlin; two brothers: Grady and Angus Alford; one sister Mary Spears all preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons: Ashby Adams, DeFuniak Springs, FL and Kirby Adams (Linda), Harpers Ferry, WV; one daughter, Charlene Lee (Jim), Mint Hill, NC; two grandchildren: Amber Paige (Jimmy), Rock Hill, SC and Matthew Lee, Denver, CO; one great-grandson, Nathan Paige, Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Amon Alford (Shirley), DeFuniak Springs, FL; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
