Essie Mae Bridges Kirkland, 82, of Cottonwood, Al, passed away at her home Monday, December 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Kirkland and Reverend Tony Deese officiating.  Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the funeral home.  

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cottonwood Senior Center, 1386 Metcalf Street, Cottonwood, Alabama 36320.

 

Born in Houston County, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Ewell and Martha Tindell Bridges. Essie was a homemaker and a member of Cottonwood Senior Center and Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood.

 

Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Shorty” Kirkland, SR; a son, Harold Kirkland JR and a granddaughter, Christy Kirkland.

 

Surviving are four sons, Albert (Starla) Kirkland, Jimmy Kirkland, Robert (Jane) Kirkland and Danny (Kim) Kirkland; five daughters, Janie (Ed) Harmon, Lynda (Randy) Campbell, JoAnn (Herb) Ruff, Kathy (Charles) Hunter, Sue (Dale) Lee and Shirley McGee; sister, Martha (Tony) Andrews; grandchildren, Meagan, Morgan, Madison, Tiffany, Andrew, Jackson, Angel, Ashton, Heather, Jessie, Sonny, Christopher, Jeremy, Lisa , Wendy, Todd, Taylor, John Robert, Joel, Aaron, Dowling, Beth, Nick, Autumn, Holly; Numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews..
