It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Pauline Adkins White announce her passing on Sunday, April 10, 2022. She was 89.

Evelyn was born November 23, 1932, in Henry County, Alabama, the seventh of nine children to Byron M. and Annie Mae Adkins (Key). She graduated in 1952 from Rehobeth High School. Evelyn worked several local jobs before beginning her career at Hedstrom (later known as Generation Two Worldwide), from which she retired. Over the years, Evelyn volunteered her time to several local organizations. Both the National Peanut Festival and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital presented Evelyn with ‘Volunteer of the Year’ awards in recognition of her dedication to hard work on behalf of their organizations and her outgoing personality.

Ma-E, as she was known to her grandchildren, was not shy about professing her love for, and devotion to, Christ. She was grateful for His sacrifice on the cross for not only her eternal home with Him in heaven, but also for her relationship with Him on this earth. She both loved God and loved people, and she wanted those she loved (and those she had just met!) to be sure of their eternal home. Evelyn was a decades-long member of Grandview Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Annie Lorraine Clements, J.B. Adkins, Travis Adkins, Jack Adkins, Tullie Adkins, J.G. Adkins (Pete), and Jimmy Adkins. Additionally, she is preceded in death by the father of her children, Farrell White.

In addition to one brother, Billy Adkins (Talladega), Evelyn is survived by her daughter Farrie (Richard) Murphy of Dothan, and son Paul (Kelly) White of Rehobeth. Surviving grandchildren include Bethany Burgess (Montgomery), Ben Burgess (Nashville) and Anna-Marie Murphy (Auburn), along with great-granddaughters Braelyn Burgess (Rehobeth) and two sweet foster loves (Auburn). Other surviving family include sisters-in-law Evelyn Adkins and Doris Adkins (both of Dothan), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jerrel Leger, Irving Murphy, Jimmy Owen, Terry Phillips, Billy Pybus, and Joe Snell. Honorary pallbearers include Evelyn’s nephew Don Clements, as well as both the Breakfast Bunch (Rehobeth High School Class of 1952) and the Wednesday Lunch Bunch.

The family expresses their deepest appreciation for the outpouring of love from friends, family, and especially their church families. They also wish to sincerely thank Lawanda Nix, who took great care of Ma-E in her later years.

While flowers are accepted, donations may also be made in her honor to either the Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund or the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home.

All are welcome to join in the celebration of her life at 10 AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Grimes and Dr. Taylor Rutland officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
