Midland City. . .Fay Thomas Brunson, a resident of Midland City, died Thursday , May 4, 2023, at Wesley Place. She was 84.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday, May 08, 2023, in the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Midland City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. -7:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. At other times the family, will be gathered at 160 Alpha St. Midland City, AL.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Place or Ozark- Dale County Humane Society.
Mrs. Brunson was born October 11, 1938, in New Brockton, AL the daughter of Robert Thomas and Addie Barbaree Thomas. Her father was a sharecropper, and her mother was a homemaker. Fay knew the meaning of hard work from a young age, helping with the farm work, even picking cotton by hand and hoeing in the fields. She attended the New Brockton school system. In 1953, her family moved to Midland City where she graduated from Midland City School in 1957. Fay was employed at Woolco and Kmart before becoming a caregiver to her husband. She later retired from Perdue. She loved to decorate her home for the seasons and each holiday. Her specialty was making gift baskets for family and friends. She enjoyed reading, search a word puzzle, and keeping up with current news and loved her feline friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years, John Edsell Brunson, two sisters, Merle Bryant and Christine Thomas and two brothers, Earnest Clayton Thomas and Robert Junior Thomas.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Pansy Brunson, a brother, Bobby Rex Thomas, a sister-in-law, Betty Thomas and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Place for the love and compassion shown to Fay during her time of need.
