Mrs. Flora McGilvray Guy, age 87, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Colonial Haven Care & Rehab in Greensboro, Alabama.
Memorial services Celebrating the life of Flora McGilvray Guy will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Heritage Baptist Church with her pastor of Heritage Baptist Church (which she was a charter member) the Reverend Van Clack and family friend Reverend Don Tew officiating and Kendall Glover directing. There will be a private family burial service at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends following the services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Flora was born on March 27, 1928 in Henry County, the daughter of Martin and Bertha Maddox McGilvray. She enjoyed many years working in the finance business, as well as being active in her church; her greatest joy was her family and also those special people that called her Gran Gran. One of her greatest virtues was doing for others. Flora loved sharing her homemade bread and teacakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Coy Guy; sister, Mildred Barnes; a brother, Will McGilvray; half-brothers, Marvin and Carl Holmes and a half-sister, Alma Nowell.
Survivors include: two daugthers, Janie Guy Denton (Michael), Enterprise, Al.; Rose Guy Shadwrick (Cal), Greensboro, Al.; granddaughter, Michelle Denton McInnis (Alex)and her children, Jacob and Haley Rose McInnis. In addition she is survived by her brother, Martin Byrd McGilvray (June) and a sister-in-law, Margaret McGilvray; also many nieces and nephews.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
