Mrs. Francis Beulah Mathis of Stephenson Road, Coffee Springs, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, October 09, 2014. She was 84.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Marvin Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jack Chancy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. Mrs. Mathis will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, October 10, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Mathis was born May 29, 1930, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Young and Lovie Barbaree Brewer. She returned to Geneva County in 1975 after living in Detroit, MI since 1953. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. At the age of 50, Mrs. Mathis obtained her GED and later received her LPN licenses. After several years of service, she retired from Wiregrass Medical Center where she worked in labor and delivery and also the ER. She was a devout Christian and loving mother. She attended Holloway Tabernacle Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Harlie Lee Mathis, a daughter, Anita Faye Miekowski, a son, Harlie Ray Mathis, a brother, Titus Brewer and a sister Barbara Brewer, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, James and wife Tonora Mathis of Coffee Springs; one daughter, Glenda and husband Robert Taylor of Navarre, FL; four sisters: Virginia Rilas of Samson, Peggy Hand of Westville, FL, Ann Lydel of Ann Arbor, MI, and Noreen Reeves of Elba; three brothers: Paul Brewer of Westville, FL, James Brewer of San Angelo, TX and Gibson Brewer of Ypsilanti, MI; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
