Gayle Sellers Chadek, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 82. Born on April 4, 1942, to Brooks Sellers and Exa Shanks Sellers, Gayle’s life was a tapestry of joy, creativity, and resilience.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, July 5, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral home, with burial to follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Gayle’s journey began on April 4, 1942, to Brooks Sellers and Exa Shanks Sellers, in the warm embrace of Dothan. Her life was one of dedication and service, as evidenced by her 20-year tenure at Flowers Hospital, where she worked as a cardiac monitor technician. Her commitment to her profession was matched only by her passion for photography, a hobby that saw her participate in the National Peanut Festival photography contest for many years.

Her love story with Tom began on March 18, 1965, and together they shared 59 years of marriage filled with laughter and discovery. Gayle’s adventurous spirit led her to explore the world with Tom in their RV after retiring on July 1, 2002. They discovered hidden gems and reveled in the freedom of the open road, a testament to her favorite quote, "not all those who wander are lost."

Gayle’s resilience was inspiring, having triumphantly beaten breast cancer, a battle that showcased her strength and determination. Her love for life was evident in her hobbies, which included planting flowers and nurturing house plants, always with a touch of her unique humor and creativity.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, Brooks and Exa Sellers, and her grandson Taylor Carpenter.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Tom Chadek; her son, Chuck Chadek of Cottonwood, Alabama; her daughter, Brooke Chadek Maple (Rusty) of Wilmington, North Carolina; her granddaughters, Cassidy Reynolds and Leah Maple; her great-grandchildren, Luke and Taylee Reynolds; and her brother, Brooks Shanks Sellers (Cathy) of Birmingham, Alabama.

Gayle’s life was a testament to the words that best described her: loving, adventurous, and creative. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her beloved family and friends
