Mrs. Ireta Simmons Maloy of Samson, Alabama passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012. She was 83.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Hospice Chaplain Rev. J. Chris Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Corner Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 9, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Maloy was born August 12, 1928, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Herman Otis and Ellaphaire Davis Simmons. She was a hard worker helping to provide for her family. She enjoyed southern cooking and baking and delighted in sharing her cooking talent with family and friends. Mrs. Maloy was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Carl Maloy, two sons, Bryant and Carl Herman Maloy, as well as two brothers, Calvin B. and Milford Simmons, and an infant sister, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons: Merwyn Maloy (June), and Daron Maloy; daughter-in-law, Denese Maloy, all of Samson; three grandchildren: Alyssa Wilson (Ryan), Prattville, AL, Emily Nicometo (David) and Marshall Maloy, all of Samson; five great-grandchildren: Ella Miller, Chloe and Levi Nicometo, Jorja Beth and Cody Jack Wilson; several special nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Wiregrass Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for the devotion and loving care that was shown to their loved one.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cory Wise, Clay Wise, Don McDougald, Mark McDougald, Shane Simmons, Lee Lafferty and Jim Thomas.
