EWELL COMMUNITY…Mrs. Janis Tharpe Peel, a resident of the Ewell Community, near Ozark, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 28, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, December 30, 2021, in the Ewell Bible Baptist Church with Pastor David Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 12:00 Noon Thursday at the church.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2, Dothan, Alabama 36303.
Mrs. Peel, daughter of the late Roy O’Neal Tharpe and Effie Goodson Tharpe was a native of Ozark, near the Mabson Community. She was a 1960 Graduate of Dale County High School in Ozark and Wallace Trade School with a certificate in secretarial and clerical work. Mrs. Peel was retired from the Department of Army Civil Service at Fort Rucker. Following her retirement, she was a substitute teacher for the Dale County School System. Mrs. Peel was an avid baseball fan and supporter of her grandchildren’s athletics. She was a member of Ewell Bible Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school, served as the church clerk, sang in the church choir, and was the “church florist”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Peel; a great-grandchild, and two brothers, Charles Tharpe and Jennings Earl Tharpe.
Surviving relatives include her two daughters Tracy Dunlap (Mickey), Bertha Community and Stephanie Jones (Bo Beasley), Dothan; six grandchildren, Logan Dunlap (Leslie), Graham Dunlap, Reid Jones (Madison), Mickenzie Bramam (Chris), Riley Jones, and Carson Dunlap; five great-grandchildre, Rawlings Dunlap, Caston Dunlap, Palmer Dunlap, Kenzleigh Grace Braman, and Holland Braman.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Logan Dunlap, Graham Dunlap, Reid Jones, Chris Braman, Carson Dunlap, Mickey Dunlap, and Bo Beasley.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and the nurses and staff of Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville for their loving care and kindness shown to Janis and her family.
