Mrs. Evelyn Jean Pennington Dodson, age 96, of Ozark, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Dodson was born December 21, 1923 in Ozark, Alabama to Henry Gordon Pennington and Veda Riley Pennington. She was a 1942 graduate of Dale County High School in Ozark and attended Riley Business College in Dothan, Alabama. During World War ll, she lived in Washington State and California with her husband, who served in the United States Army Air Corp. Jean was a loving mother, wife and friend. She was an active supporter of her children’s sports and other activities. She shared her love of music with her children and encouraged them to sing and play instruments. Someone once asked her, "How do you put up with the practicing and loud music your children play?” She replied, "Because I enjoy knowing where my children are." She was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church and the Ozark Chapter of The Eastern Star. Jean enjoyed oil painting, woodworking and was also a great cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Jones Dodson, Sr.; her son, Rodney James Dodson.
Survivors include one daughter, Celia Wilkerson of Panama City, Florida; two sons, Claude Jones Dodson, Jr. and Gordon Dodson (Jane) all of Ozark; daughter-in-law, Selina Hughes Dodson of Ozark; grandchildren, Kevin Dodson, Jean Kendall Dodson, David Wilkerson and Alex Wilkerson; great grandchildren, Emmie Carroll and Cora Carroll.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
