Obituary:  Mrs. Joan Hayes Powell

 

Mrs. Joan Hayes Powell of Enterprise went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 16, 2016 after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was 81.

 

Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowlawn Memorial Park cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 until 7pm. The body will be placed into the church 1 hour before service time. The family will be at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Cecil Jones in Dale County.

 

Mrs. Joan was born August 19, 1935 in Cobbtown, Georgia to the late James F. and Annie Slayton Hayes. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.  For 38 years she worked and served as a tax professional. Her husband of 57 years, Floyd Powell preceded her in death.

 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions could be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church (building fund), 500 Alberta St, Enterprise or to the Gideon’s chapter of your choice.

 

Survivors include her daughters: Susan Jones and her husband Cecil, Enterprise, Lou Ann Raetzke and her husband Fred, Dothan, Lyn King and her husband Lee, Atlanta, Ga,, her sister: Betty Scott, Centerville, Ga, her brother, Billy Hayes and his wife, Annette, Swainsboro, Ga, 7 grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Chasity, Joshua, Matthew, Carl and fiancée Kristen, Kathryn, Amy and husband Kenny, 5 great grandchildren: Christopher, Kyle, Hunter, Kailee and Alissa, many nieces and nephews.
