OZARK… Mrs. Joan Leonard Thompson, a resident of Ozark, died late Tuesday evening, June 14, 2022, in Oakview Manor Retirement Center in Ozark. She was 80.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 17, 2022, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Hale and Reverend Tim Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Southside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.


            Mrs. Thompson, daughter of the late Albert Edward Leonard and Mamie Adeline Gilland Leonard, was a native of Madera, California. She lived in various locations in the United States and overseas, while her husband served in the United States Army. Mrs. Thompson moved to Ozark in 1980 and was formerly employed with Walter Hand Motor Company in Ozark as a bookkeeper. She was a loving, caring, and strong mother who raised her five sons. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir and Women’s Ministry.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, James Thompson (Sergeant Major, United States Army, Retired), Ozark; five sons, Jim Thompson (Jan), Cullman, AL, Richard Thompson, Cowarts, Danny Thompson, Dothan, John Thompson, Cowarts, and David Thompson (Stephanie), Enterprise; four grandchildren, Holly Gonzalez Mirna Thompson, Amadeua Thompson, and Brenda Thompson.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be her sons.
