Mrs. Josephine Hudson Shipes, age 77, of Dothan, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Born November 27, 1945 in rural Coffee County, Alabama to the late William Noah Hudson and Lillie B. Cook Hudson, Jo was a long time member of Blackwood Church and after retiring from Sony Manufacturing, she served many others as a caregiver. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially Spades. She also loved music and dancing but her heart centered around her family. No one ever left Jo’s house hungry for she loved cooking for her family and spending time with those that she loved. Jo will be remembered for her loving spirit and infectious laugh and smile.
In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry Hudson and Randolph Hudson; and her sisters, Christine Little and Janice Baker.
Jo is survived by her husband of 22 years, Billy Shipes; her daughters, Teresa Wiggins (Robert), Tina Dykes (Jon), and Tammy Wilkerson; her step-children, Keith Shipes (Vickie), Amy Harris (Ricky) and Cindy Patrick; her grandchildren, Chelsey Wiggins Klasky (Lyle), Michael Blake Johnson, James Connor Johnson (Haley Nicole), Julia Thomas (Ryan), and Jonathan Shipes; her great-grandchildren, Cooper Aiden Klasky, Lyla Reese Klasky, Michael Bentley Johnson, Makinley Blayre Johnson, Kyleigh Michelle Johnson, Camden James Johnson, Jax Connor Johnson, Tripp Hayes Johnson, and Adella Rose Johnson; her daughter in love, Haley Wiggins; her brothers, Billy Ray Hudson (Sue), Tommy Hudson (Harriet), Jimmy Hudson (Tammy); her sisters, Pat Osborn, Mary Bess (Mike), Diane Carter, Carolyn Foley, and Lisa Day; her sister-in-law, Pat Hudson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and Izzy, her favorite Pug.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 13, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend James Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 1 PM, Friday October 13, 2023, prior to the service at the funeral home.
