Mrs. Kate Richard Brodhage, a resident of Hartford Retirement Village, passed away on Wednesday, December 05, 2012. She was 93. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Samson First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 113 S. Jordan St, Samson, AL 36477.
Mrs. Brodhage was born in Geneva County on October 4, 1919 to the late Andrew Jackson Phillips and Willie Ruth Phillips. During WWII she worked as a riveter at the ship yard in Pensacola, FL. For many years she worked in ladies retail clothing sales. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Brodhage; son, Donald J. Brewer; four sisters, Josie Crews, Ouida Adkinson, Lanelle Newman, Birdie Phillips; four brothers, Royce Phillips, Leon Phillips, Monroe Phillips and Mack Phillips.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Donald Richard Brewer (Ann) of Troy and Denise B. Stokes (Larry) of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Pennie Q. Brewer; four great grandchildren, Amy B. Hawkins, Andrew Richard Brewer, Stephanie Nicole McWaters (Josh) and James Bryant Stokes; two great great grandchildren, Aicey Hawkins and Cally McWaters, all of Troy; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Brewer of Samson and Charlotte Brewer of Opp; brother-in-law, Dan Brewer (Mavis); and two half sisters, Jeanette Bowdon of Samson and Betty Henderson, all of Samson.
