Mrs. Kathryn Louise Powers Withrow of Ozark died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Saturday, April 21, 2018, from Chalkhead Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church Saturday from 1:30 P.M. until service time.
Mrs. Withrow was born December 28, 1922 in the Ewell Community of Ozark to the late Loyce Alonzo Powers and Lillie Albie Woodham Powers. Louise grew up singing with her family in churches throughout the Southeast. She met Freddy Eugene “Gene” Withrow when he was stationed at Camp Rucker, now known as Fort Rucker. Louise married Gene and they raised eight children together while he served in the United States Army throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Alabama. Louise moved back to Ozark upon her husband’s death in 1965 and finished raising her children with the help of her parents. She resided in her home in the Ewell Community, working at Hardees in her later years and remained active in Chalkhead Baptist Church until her passing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy Eugene Withrow; one daughter, Anna Kathryn Withrow Ward; three sons, William “Bill” Withrow, David L. Withrow, and Markle D. Withrow; three sisters, Lillie Naomi Powers, Mellona Woodham, and Frances Wambles; and one brother, O. B. Powers.
Louise’s surviving children include her daughters, Jennette Peterson, Avis Kirkland, Lisa Chancey (Roger), and Deana Ford (Bill). Louise had twenty-two grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chalkhead Baptist Church Building Fund, 495 County Road 35, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
