LaJean Lott Delk Powell passed away on December 6 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
LaJean was born on June 26, 1955 in Valdosta, Georgia. As part of an US AirForce family, she lived all over the world, including Germany and Japan. Her parents, who preceded her in death, are Bonnie and Gene Lott of Donalsonville, Georgia. She leaves behind three loving siblings: Sheila Cronin (Butch) of Bainbridge, Terry Joiner (Tommy), and Eric Lott (Jeanne) of Donalsonville.
LaJean married Roy Delk in July 1971, and they made a life together in Seminole County, GA, which included five children: David Delk (Pamela), Joe Delk (Heather), Bonnie Williams (Russ), Sarah Gilbert (Jason), and Jenny Whitaker (Terry). Tragically, Roy preceded her in death in 1989.
In August 1991, LaJean married Kevin Powell of Dothan. She considered Kevin’s children her own: Marty Powell (Brittany) and Jessica Harry (Adam). She and Kevin lived happily in Dothan for the past 24 years. LaJean loved the outdoors; she enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Sixteen beloved grandchildren mourn the loss of their Nana LaJean: Haylee Givens, Myra and Kalon Delk, Megan Jones and Ashley Roberts, Chason and Cal Williams, Katelyn and Emily Delk, Allison Parker, Emma Delk and Ella Gilbert, Jack and Max Whitaker, Kinsey Powell, and Kyla Harry.
LaJean was a beloved member of the Georgia Pacific Cedar Springs Operations family for 17 years. She leaves behind many loyal friends there.
Funeral services are being handled by Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Dothan. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm (CST), followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm (CST) on Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
