Mrs. Laura Mae Enfinger, age 92, of Dothan, died surrounded by her family Saturday, September 29, 2023.
Born July 19, 1931 in Webb, Alabama to the late Walter Lee Shaw and Lilla Elizabeth Hughes Shaw, Laura graduated Donalsonville High School in 1948 and later married the love of her life, Edsel Paul Enfinger. She was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for 64 years joining in 1959 as a founding member. While her children were growing up she served by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Laura also loved singing in the Senior Adults Choir and served as a volunteer at SEAMC for 20 years as well as RSVP for a number of years. She enjoyed a multitude of hobbies, including gardening and flowers (especially her roses) and cutting grass. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. Laura was the best cook ever and was known to be very particular about food but she made the most delicious pound cakes, desserts, dressing, and all dishes southern. She loved spending time with friends, relatives, and family but nothing more than spending time with and taking care of her children and grandchildren. In recent years, Laura loved living at Whitehall Assisted Living and the friends and staff she met there. She enjoyed their delicious meals and activities, especially bingo, exercise and Bible study. Laura will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her and her love for the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edsel Paul Enfinger; her brothers, Royce Shaw and James Shaw; and her sister, Mary Nell McIntyre.
She is survived by her children, Theresa Williams (Glenn), Kathi Carlson (Larry), Linda Englert (Michael), and Doug Enfinger (Lisa); her grandchildren, Joshua Williams (Heather), Jason Williams (Tara), Lauren Carlson (Scott Guy Shick), Scott Carlson, Leslie Ann Englert, Elizabeth Harper (Paul), Blake Enfinger, and Reid Enfinger; her great-grandson, Lucas Harper; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Monday, October 2, 2023 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. At all other times, the family will be at Laura’s home at 121 Camberly Court.
The family will be accepting flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund or Gentiva Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of Whitehall Assisted Living, Gentiva Hospice, and especially, Jada Starling for the special care given to Laura.
