Mrs. Lillie Hunter McNeal Ketchum, a lifelong resident of Hartford went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ early Tuesday morning. She was 97.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Slocomb with Rev. Moody Faulk and Dr. Ralph Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. At all other times, the family will be at the home of Jeff and Nina Brannon.
Known affectionately by her family as “Mammaw” and Hunter to her friends, she was blessed with a loving, caring and hospitable spirit. Born on October 6, 1914 to the late Bud and Adele McNeal, Hunter grew up in rural Geneva County and worked most of her adult life in retail sales at The Fashion Shop located on the square in Hartford. Married at age 14 to Roy Brannon, they were blessed with two sons Marcon L. “Mutt” and James M. “Jeff” Brannon. Roy passed away in 1970 and Hunter married James Ketchum (Daddy K) in 1981 and was blessed with another family that she loved dearly. Following Daddy K’s death in 1984 she remained a widow but enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was blessed with good health and did not have to take any regular medicines until age 94.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Roy Brannon and James Ketchum; brothers: Leonard McNeal, Lamar McNeal, Perry Clyde McNeal and Newton Frazier McNeal; sisters: Estelle McNeal Shields and Louise McNeal Burkhead; daughter-in-law: Betty Brannon; stepsons: William Ketchum and James Edward Ketchum; step great-grandson: Justin Ketchum; and step great granddaughter: Courtney Bright.
Hunter is survived by two sons: Mutt (Joyce) Brannon, Hartford, AL and James (Lib) Brannon, Dudley, NC; grandsons: Lamar (Debbie) Brannon, Pfafftown, NC, Terry (Cathy) Brannon, Birmingham, AL, Jeffrey (Nina) Brannon, Hartford, AL, Mark (Dewanna) Brannon, Dunn, NC; granddaughters: Beth Brannon (Tommy) Kelpin, Tallahassee, FL, Shelia Whittle, Hartford, Frieda Fulford (Winton), Hartford; great granddaughters: Tina (Michael) Dorriety, Jennifer Majors, Mindy (Micah) Turner, all of Hartford, AL and Shelby Kirkland, Tallahassee, FL; great grandsons: Michael (Jenny) Brannon, Matt (Kristi) Brannon, all of Winston-Salem, NC, Jason (Julie) Holloway, Franklin, TN, Zachary Brannon, Auburn, AL, Ford Kirkland, Reid Kirkland, Tallahassee, FL, Josh Fulford, Hartford; great-great grandsons: Luke Dorriety, Cade Holloway, Blake Holloway, Evan Brannon, Brannon Turner, Mason Brannon; great-great granddaughters: Jaycee Dorriety, Jessie Driver, Kaley Brannon, Jaden-Scott Majors, and Lillie Claire Turner; sisters: Hilda McNeal Ellerbe, Altadena, CA and Kate McNeal Pierce, Kentucky. Ketchum family survivors include two daughters-in-law: Robbie Ketchum, Hartford, AL and Helen Gano, Enterprise, AL; grandsons: Steve (Lisa) Ketchum, Hartford, AL and Mark Ketchum, Prattville, AL; granddaughters: Rhonda (Junior) Tindell, Hartford, AL and Genary (Kyle) LaPlant, Dothan, AL; great grandsons: Wes (Carrie) Tindell and Eric Walding, Hartford, AL, Jake LaPlant, Dothan, AL, Tab (Libby) Bright, Tallahassee, FL, and Chad Bright, Marianna, FL, William Christopher Ketchum, Panama City, FL; great granddaughters: Lana Tindell, Stephanie (Anthony) Bowden, Lauren (Drew) Fountain, all of Hartford, AL and Madison LaPlant, Dothan, AL, Charity Summer Ketchum, Panama City, FL; great-great grandsons: Judson Bowden, Tripp Bright and Luke Bright; great-great granddaughters: Addie Beth Bowden, Ella Grace Fountain, Ava Tindell and Maddie Bright; great great grandson: Luke Allen Mears; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mark Brannon, Jason Holloway, Michael Brannon, Matt Brannon, Zachary Brannon, and Ford Kirkland.
