Obituary: Lorene Griffin

Mrs. Lorene Griffin of New Brockton passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at her home at the age of 88.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Enterprise with Brother Corbin Griffin, Brother Greg Cotter, and Brother Adam Carlee officiating. Burial will follow at the New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until time of service.

Lorene was born January 17, 1936, in Coffee County, Alabama, to the late Renzor and Willie Nicholson Strickland and spent her entire life as a resident of New Brockton.  She attended school at New Brockton and became the bride of Lamar Griffin, which lasted 66 years until his passing. They moved into their residence on Sparks Street, which served as her home until her passing.

Lorene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother. She left a legacy of love and took pride in her family. She enjoyed her home thoroughly and took great joy in designing and decorating. She would even see potential in a discarded piece of furniture, and she always wanted to restore and return it to its glorious state. Lorene worked hours in her yards. She was elated when the New Brockton Garden Club had recently awarded her Yard of the Month. Pots adorned her patio and porches with plants and flowers to create her garden oasis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Renzor and Willie Nicholson Strickland of New Brockton; husband, Lamar Griffin; brothers, Raymond Strickland of New Brockton and Gene Strickland of Elba; sister, Maxine Elliott of Enterprise; son, Lanny Griffin of New Brockton; and grandaughter, Brandi Griffin Colli of Mobile.

Survivors include her son, Leslie Griffin (Sandy) of New Brockton; daughters, Lori Johnson (Larry) of Enterprise and Leigh Seaton (Kevin) of New Brockton; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Enhabit Hospice for their loving help and care, and special care given by Kim King for her comfort in her last days. Lorene will be greatly missed, but we have the assurance she is in her new home and will make that home special. Proverbs 24:3-4 “By wisdom a house is built and through understanding it is established. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”
