Mrs. Louise Snellgrove Weeks, a resident of The Terrace at Grove Park, Dothan, Alabama went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. She was 81.
The Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Geneva with Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating. Burial will follow in the Coffee Springs City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. At the graveside service the closing prayer will be given by Mr. Bill Knight of Glenwood, AL. For condolences, the family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service time at Sorrells Funeral Home.
Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family requests no food at the family residence; instead the family will gather after the graveside service at the Coffee Springs Senior Citizens Center for memories, fellowship and a light covered dish dinner. A greeter will be at the center the day of the service.
Mrs. Weeks was born in Geneva County, AL on February 22, 1931 to the late Kenith White Snellgrove and Mary Lois Spears Snellgrove. During her childhood years she ran and played in the Long Branch Community area and later moved to Coffee Springs, AL where she lived the remainder of her life until March 2011, when she moved into the assisted living retirement community at The Terrace at Grove Park. She was a member of the Coffee Springs United Methodist Church where her heart remained, but later attended Center Ridge United Methodist Church with her husband. During her attendance at Coffee Springs High School she met the love of her life who was also her best friend and life mate, Max Ray Weeks, who had just returned home from WW II. Shortly after then they were married and began their life long journey together until he passed away in November of 2006.
Mrs. Weeks had a great love for their farm, their gardens and most of all her Antique Roses and Daylilies. She had one of the largest Antique Rose collections in the Wiregrass area and took great pride in sharing her daylilies with neighbors, family and friends. She loved flowers and plants of all types, but roses were always her favorite. Mrs. Weeks was an avid reader and felt that anyone who could read could succeed in any area of their life. Her life always included a weekly trip to the Enterprise Public Library where she made many friends through the years. During her last trip to the Great Smokey Mountains she was able to stay in the home built by her favorite author, Linda Howard, in Wears Valley, TN. She established the Coffee Springs Chapter of The Geneva County Home Demonstration Club and had represented them at Auburn University. She was an active member up until the time her dialysis schedule would no longer allow her time to attend meetings. Mrs. Weeks devoted her time and love to her family and friends.
Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Max Ray Weeks; her parents, Kenith White Snellgrove and Mary Lois Spears Snellgrove; her father and mother-in-law, Louis Issac Weeks and Lena Hogan Weeks; and one brother-in-law, Gerald Jones, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Bobby Weeks, Coffee Springs; two daughters and sons-on-law, Julie and Mark Jones, Geneva, and Janet and Chris Hicks, Coffee Springs; two grandchildren: Steven McAllister, Stephanie Ziglar (Cliff), all of Coffee Springs; two sisters: Vivian Hardwick (Charles), Cuthbert, GA and Jean Jones, Coffee Springs; nephew, Gerald Jones, Jr. (Inga), Eufaula; three nieces: Carmen Hancock (Al), Tallahassee, FL, Charlotte Carmichael (Ben), Atlanta, GA and Leah Ashey (Mike), Tallahassee, FL; special friend and father of her grandson, Jerry McAllister, Malvern; two great-grandchildren; special life-long friend, Patricia Smith, Coffee Springs; special friend and neighbor, Nancy Ellis, Enterprise; special friend and relative, Grace Hogan Thompson, Daleville; her extended family at Glenwood United Methodist Church and at The Terrace at Grove Park; many cousins, several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Steven McAllister, Gerald Jones, Jr., Chris Hicks, Mark Jones, Cliff Ziglar, Ben Carmichael, Al Hancock and Jerry McAllister.
Mrs. Weeks’ family would like to thank all of her caregivers at The Terrace at Grove Park, Covenant Hospice (Dothan Team, Southeast Alabama Home Health Care, Davita Dialysis, DCI, and Marsha Sanderson for all of their love, care, compassion, and support.
