Mrs. Quattlebaum, Mrs. Q as everyone called her, began her career with Southeast Alabama Medical Center, General Hospital at the time, in August of 1956. Mrs. Quattlebaum was the first female employee hired by Southeast Alabama Medical Center. This was before the hospital opened in 1956. Alongside Mr. Dean Byrd, Administrator, she did everything from taking pictures of newborn babies, to taking care of anything else that needed to be done. Mr. Byrd quickly promoted her to Administrative Assistant. One of the Administrators named her “First Lady of SAMC”, which she was in many ways. She later became Assistant Administrator which involved being responsible for many departments and activities. She retired after 30 years of service with Southeast Alabama Medical Center and went on to be Administrator of Dialysis Clinic, Inc. She increased their ability to treat patients in office and negotiate a contract with SAMC to treat patients there. She was also involved with other dialysis clinics in the surrounding counties. Her career was very important to her but not as much as her beloved husband, four boys and grandchildren. She left her mark on Dothan, Alabama and will never be forgotten.
