Mrs. Lucy Fay Mobley Nelson died peacefully on November 16, 2015 in Dothan at the age of 91.
Mrs. Nelson was born on May 24, 1924 in Rocky Mount, NC to Theodore and Mamie Mobley. She met Vernon Nelson at a soda fountain where she worked when he asked her to type papers for him while he was a student at Clemson University. They married in 1943. Over their marriage of over 50 years, they welcomed two children into their home. She made a home wherever Vernon’s job as a Train Master with Seaboard Coastline Railroad took them, finally settling in Dothan in 1960. Her family eventually grew to include 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Vernon Nelson, Jr., her son, Harold Vernon “Harry” Nelson, III, and her infant great-grandson, Tyler Christopher Nelson.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her son, Kelly (Carol) Nelson, Dothan; her sister, Vivian Easterling, Rocky Mount, NC; daughter-in-law, Paula Nelson, Dothan; grandchildren, Will (CJ) Chadwick, Dothan, Chris (Misty) Nelson, Dothan, Michelle Hardy, Dothan, Michelle (Will) Grafton, Jacksonville, FL, and Annie (Justin) Hall, Germantown, TN.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Brother Bill Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lucy’s life.
