Mrs. Lue Verna Herndon Dykes, age 94, of Dothan passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020.


Born August 2, 1926 in Dale County, Alabama to the late Harvey Jackson Herndon and Mary Ollie Register Herndon, Lue Verna was a long time member of First Freewill Baptist Church. She was a soldier’s wife, her husband,  Cecil served his country during World War II. Lue Verna was loved by many and will be dearly missed.


In addition to her parents, Lue Verna was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Cecil Dykes; her son, Larry Dykes; her granddaughter, Teresa Mills; and her sisters, Mary Inez Woodham and Nellie Voorhees.


She is survived by her daughter, Olivia Ann Brannon; her daughter-in-law, Carol Dykes; her grandson, Jonathan Dykes (Tina); five great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Janice Rogers; a special lady, Tami Meadows; numerous other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, November 29, 2020 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Josh Alderman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until service time at the funeral home.


Covid-19 precautions and guidelines for social distancing are requested by the family.
