SKIPPERVILLE… Mrs. Lurelle Garner Watson, a resident of Skipperville, died Monday morning, April 5, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Jan Gassett. She was 85.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Beersheba Cemetery in Skipperville with Reverend Lee Windham officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made Beersheba Cemetery, c/o Rhonda Watson, 2081 Skipperville Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mrs. Watson was born April 14, 1935, daughter of the late Wilmer E. Garner and Ocie Baker Garner. She was a lifelong resident of Skipperville where she owned and operated Watson’s Grocery and Market since 1973. Mrs. Watson was a member of Skipperville United Methodist Church and was formerly employed by the Dale County School System at G.W. Long Elementary School as a teacher’s aide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim J. Watson; granddaughter, Amanda Joyce Deloney; son-in-law, Billy Ray Gassett and a sister, Lyle Childs; brothers-in-law, Eugene Childs, Waddy Thompson, and Charles Riley.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Jan Gassett and Jill Laney (Ricky); son, Edsel Watson (Lydia), all of Skipperville; two sisters, Rena Thompson, Alpine, AL and Helen Riley, Skipperville; grandchildren, Matthew Watson (Pam), Paul Morrison (Vicki), Krista Agerton (Randy), Michael Deloney (Kristie), and Shannon Sanders (Thomas); great-grandchildren, Weston Watson, Auburn Watson, Jack Watson, Cohen Watson, Liam Agerton, Cooper Morrison, Laney Deloney, McKinley Deloney, Madalyn Goodson, and Sawyer-Grantsyn Sanders; special adopted son from the community, Austin Johnson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Morrison, Michael Deloney, Thomas Sanders, Kent Riley, Austin Johnson, and Don Snell.
The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff of Day Spring Hospice for their loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Watson and the family.
