Margaret Elizabeth Mertz Langford, a resident of Dothan, Alabama died Friday, April 28, 2023, at Flowers Hospital. She was 85.
Per her wishes there will be no services at this time.
Mrs. Langford was born on March 8, 1938, to the late Eugene Lester and Patricia Lillian Heninger Mertz in Jefferson City, Missouri. She considered Carmi, Illinois her home and felt strongly connected to her roots in Flora, Illinois, and the St. Louis County area of Missouri. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger Glenn Langford, on December 28, 1957, during his Christmas leave from the U.S. Navy. They then began to embark on a 65 year marriage that saw the birth of two children, Patricia Dee and David Glen, and many moves from Norfolk, VA to San Francisco, CA as roger advanced in his career with IBM. Margaret was an immaculate homemaker with exquisite taste. She had an innate eye for interior design and décor. She excelled at propping up her friends and family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She was dedicated to and passionately loved her cats Baxter, Abby, Blue, Punky, and Dewey. In the spring of 2022, she experienced the heartbreaking death of her beloved son, David Glen Langford.
She was preceded in death by her son; parents; and a brother, Donald Eugene Mertz.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Patricia Dee Bryant (Michael); and two grandchildren, Margaret Mary Bryant and Michael Patrick Bryant.
