Margaret Eloise Knight Granger was born August 24, 1922, in Slocomb, AL. Eloise was a lifelong resident of Dothan, AL and had recently relocated to Birmingham, AL. She died Friday April 26, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center at the age of 90.
Eloise was known to most as “MeMe” lovingly named by her granddaughters. Through the years of following her granddaughters sporting events, she met many of their acquaintances and developed lasting friendships with parents and children alike. “MeMe” loved and valued family finding lots of opportunities to share her experiences and time but most importantly her love. In all circumstances “MeMe” loved her family unconditionally and wanted them to spend as much time as possible together. She was extremely proud of the success of her family and felt blessed with her son’s family, and the families of her granddaughters and 6 great-grandchildren. If you knew Meme you knew about her love of family.
To quote her granddaughters Meme was a constant in our lives and shared so many life experiences, good times, and friends. Not many children get to spend the kinds of time we did with our grandmother. She blessed us, her 6 great grandchildren, and will never be forgotten. Meme, I love you and am so thankful for my time with you and for the lessons you taught us all. You lived a long, hard, and successful life rich in love, service, and spirit. God truly is saying well done, you good and faithful servant! Heaven is truly rejoicing as you make your way with the angels. Until we meet again…”
Eloise retired from the City of Dothan Department of Leisure Services where she performed all of the Bookkeeping Services. Prior to her employment with the City of Dothan she performed similar responsibilities at Borden’s Ice Cream. She was a graduate of Slocomb High School and Riley Business College. Wherever she worked she was known for her perfection, attention to detail and gifted penmanship. She was a longtime faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved University of Alabama sports and the Atlanta Braves.
