Obituary from Holman Funeral Home and Cremations – Ozark, AL

“This establishment does not own a crematory.”

Mrs. Martha E. (Dixie) Everett entered into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Thursday, November 26, 2020.   After a long joyous life with her loving family, she was escorted into heaven by God’s Amazing Grace. Dixie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Edward J. Everett, and one grandson, John Andrew Everett.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 29, 2020, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark with Pastor Mike Tindol officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Sunday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.

Dixie began her life in Pensacola, FL on August 6, 1936, and spent most of her childhood around Ariton, Alabama.  She became an Army wife upon her marriage to Ed on May 25, 1953 and later started her family while moving to different Army bases including Germany and two tours to Okinawa.  Her husband retired in Ozark after 21 years of service, where she started various work positions, including Bargain Town sales clerk.  Dixie and Ed set out traveling again, living in Dayton Ohio, Waukegan, Illinois, and Key West, Florida.  After that they came back to Ozark to spend the rest of their years where she retired from the Alabama (AEA) School system as lunchroom manager at Lisenby Elementary.  Her many hobbies included horse riding, travel, and bowling, spending time with her family.  She was also an avid fan of TV westerns as well as some reality TV which included such shows as Survivor and Big Brother. Those of us left behind shall always remember Dixie when we observe horses in stride, when we sit around telling stories, or watching some of her favorite westerns.

As she departs this life for Heaven’s Kingdom, Dixie will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a treasured friend by many. Those whose lives she touched will never be the same. Known for her sweet spirit, sense of humor, and zest for living, Dixie’s greatest joy was always her family and her 4-legged companion Poncho.  She always looked forward to holiday gatherings which allowed here to converse with family members and meet new ones.

She leaves behind many family members, relatives, and friends to forever cherish her memory. Family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine (Kitty) and Gary Cathcart, three sons with daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Diana, Richard J. and Evelyn, and Steven John and Paige Everett. Grandchildren include, Gary and Christina Cathcart, Jr., Chad and Lisa Travers, Melissa R. Edwards, D.J. and Chrissy Everett, Tanner Everett, Ryan Everett, Matthew and Melani Everett, Rebekah and Adam Roberts, Andrew Everett (Deceased), and Tullie Everett.  Great grandchildren include Van G. Cathcart III, Carson Cathcart, Hannah Cathcart, Devin, Mason, Isaac, Jacob, and Rylan Edwards, John Austin Travers, Erica Edgerly, Emily Travers, Arora Travers, Samantha Edgerly, Tyler Everett, Tara Buckner, Jade Everett, Nora Everett, Maverick Everett and Drew Roberts.  One great-great-grandson is Killian Buckner. Other family members include a special niece Kay Ausbon, three sisters JoAnn Watson (deceased), Annie and Jerry Segars, Debbie Schaule, and two brothers Phillip and Pam Paulk and Edward Paulk (deceased).
