Obituary: Mrs. Martha Jo Childs Cotton

 

Mrs. Martha Jo Childs Cotton of Hartford went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Flowers Hospital.  She was 79.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Tom Chestnut and Rev. Robin Blackburn     officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Cotton was born January 26, 1939 in Geneva County to the late Clarence M. and Thelma I. Arnold Childs. Martha Jo was a dedicated woman of faith and member of Sardis Church. She loved to travel and went on many mission trips. She was a member of the 1957 graduating class of Slocomb High School. Martha Jo retired from civil service with over 30 years of service. She was a loving wife, adoring mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Arthur L. Cotton Jr. preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons:  Col. USA (Retired) Norman Cotton (Renee’) of Fort Meade, MD and Dennis Cotton (Fiancée, Carlie Peters) of Hartford; four grandchildren:  Laurisha, Drew, Jessica, and Justin; one sister: Glenda Sammons (Earl); one brother, Malcolm Childs; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
