Obituary:  Mrs. Mary Charles Howell Chandler

 

Mrs. Mary Charles Howell Chandler passed to her heavenly reward Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 82.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013 in Hartford Baptist Church with Reverend Bruce Spivey and Reverend Moody Faulk officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 1270, Slocomb, AL 36375 or the Hartford Baptist Church, 105 E. Burch Street, Hartford, AL 36344. 

Mrs. Chandler was born on December 19, 1930 in the Oak Grove Community of Geneva County, the daughter of the late Ernest and Nell Moseley Howell.  She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at age eight and followed Him faithfully until her death.

In addition to her parents, one grandson, Shane Stading; two sisters-in-law: Grace and Juanita, several aunts and uncles preceded her in death. 

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, H. Leonard Chandler; daughters: Susan Chandler Foster and husband Don Wilson and Marsha Chandler Eggers and husband Bill; grandson, Scott Shirley (Celeste); granddaughter Katie Eggers Rebideaux (Joe); and great-granddaughter, Kayla Shirley.  She is also survived by her stepmother, Quilla Howell; sister-in-law, Joy Chandler Straughn (Howard) and more cousins, friends and neighbors than there are stars in the heavens.
