Mary Joyce Etheridge September 16, 1942 – July 10, 2024
Our loving mother, Mary Joyce Etheridge, died July 10, 2024, a few months before her 82nd birthday. She passed away peacefully at her home after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for more than 6 years. Mary was born in Dothan, Alabama, on September 16, 1942 to Johnie Mae Gay and Thomas Wesley Butler. She graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1960 and, after nearly 50 years of service with Flowers Hospital, she retired in 2009.
As a child, Mary enjoyed waiting for the book mobile to come by her house so she could feel the joy of getting lost in a good book. She was also an accomplished pianist and enjoyed singing in the church choir with her brother and sisters for many years. More than anything, Mary was most passionate about taking care of her grandchildren and the numerous children she babysat and cared for over the years. She loved each and every one as though they were her own.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Johnie May Butler and Thomas Wesley Butler, as well as her sister Ella Mae Dawsey and brother Talmadge Butler. Mary is survived by her sisters: Doris Pittman, Betty Baxley, Martha Walding, and Lonnell Matthews; her cherished daughters, Kecia Pearcy and Kayla Etheridge; her daughter-in-law Virginia Boyle; and her grandchildren, Kyle and Karelle Pearcy, Josie Boyle, and Clay Boyle. She is also remembered and mourned by countless family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends throughout Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you send donations to Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Suite B, Dothan, AL 36305.
We miss you, Mom.
