Mrs. Mary Locke Branch, 94, of Dothan, AL passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
She was born December 10, 1928, in the Waller Store Community of Houston County, the elder daughter of loving parents, the late Floyd Thomas Locke and Madie Dean Murdock Locke. She was also proceded in death by John William Branch, her loving husband of forty years.
She was a wonderful daughter, wife, and mother, and along with her husband John, instilled Christian values in their three children. She lived her life as a testament to her Christian faith. An excellent student, she attended Dupree School and Young Junior, and graduated from Dothan High School and Riley Business College. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1990 to enjoy her hobbies of gardening, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her three grandsons, whom she adored and helped their parents raise.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Boardman officiating. Burial will follow in Howard Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottonwood.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, October 21, 2023, one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M.
Mary is survived by her loving family: her sister Myrna Jean Locke of Dothan; her three children: daughter Brenda Branch Hundley and husband Ted of Enterprise; daughter Marcia Branch Burkett and husband Bill of Dothan; and son John Steven Branch and his family Cindy Alphord and her granddaughters Adalynn Richards and Madison Davis of Dothan. She is also survived by her three grandsons and their families: Seth Burkett, his wife Catherine Godbey, and their son John Wyatt of Decatur; Dr. Jared Burkett, his wife Shilpa Burkett, and their children Norah, Dylan, and Aria of Mobile; and Dr. Alexander Burkett, his wife Dr. Elizabeth Burkett, and their daughter Emily Mary of Mobile. In addition to these, she is also survived by numerous relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Baptist Church of Dothan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Walter J. Doty, III, for his excellent and loving care of her over the decades, and also the staffs of Extendicare Health Center and Gentiva Hospice for their care, concern, and kindness.
