Mrs. Mary Nell DuRant of Geneva, Alabama, passed away Monday evening March 26, 2018, at the age of 87.


Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 30, 2018 in the Chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Billy Rich officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Geneva.  The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home and continue until the time of the funeral service.


Mrs. DuRant was born in Geneva County Alabama on December 4, 1930 to the late Earnest Judge, Sr. and Hattie Mae Hicks Wood. She married Thomas Oliver DuRant on July 5, 1949.  She and her husband were baptized on September 24, 1950 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Geneva for 60+ years, a proud graduate of Geneva High School, class of 1948 and from the Draughon’s Business College in Birmingham, Alabama.  She retired from The US Army Aviation Technical Library as a library technician with Civil Service at Ft. Rucker after thirty years of dedicated service . She was very active in the lives of her daughters and grandchildren, a very talented cook; especially known for her lemon pie with a mile-high meringue and famous chicken salad.


 


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of fifty-six years, Thomas Oliver DuRant and one brother, Earnest Junior Wood.


 


Flowers will be accepted or contributions made to the Geneva First Baptist Church.


 


Survivors are two daughters Pamela D. Ellis (Ron)  and Patricia D. Hulgan (Eddie)  both of Dothan, Alabama; five grandchildren Carrie Graham (Scott), Birmingham, Alabama, Casey Andrews (Eric), Lander, Wyoming, Craig Ellis (Mandi), Grapevine, Texas, Hayden Hulgan, Birmingham, Alabama and Stacy Crumley (Tommy) of Jacksonville, Florida, and seven great grandchildren with another on the way.
