Mrs. Maurene Mobley Ward passed away peacefully on December 18, 2021 with her family by her side.
Maurene was born April 19, 1927 in Jack, Alabama to the late Colon and Opie Wilson Mobley. On September 15, 1951, she married Opal D. Ward and began her life as an Army wife travelling to many states and to Germany. They eventually settled in Dothan, Alabama where they raised their four children. She worked at Selma Street Elementary for many years in the lunchroom. She was an excellent seamstress sewing for her children and grandchildren. Maurene also enjoyed gardening and picking vegetables and watching Alabama football. She was a member of the Coachman Campers Club and was also an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Opal Ward; her brothers, Wilson Mobley and Malcolm Mobley; and her sister, Inez Hussey.
Maurene leaves behind four children, Donna Crozier, Ft. Gaines, GA, Debbie (Jim) Sutton, Dothan, Rex (Julia) Ward, and Cindy Byrd, Hope Hull, AL; her grandchildren, Emily Ingram, Rachel Grommes, Mandy Harper, Melissa Crozier, David Crozier, Jessica Buker, Nicholas Wilson, and Carolyn Byrd; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Fairlan (Barbara) Mobley; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Doster officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
