Obituary: Mrs. Maxine Sorrells Battles

Mrs. Maxine Sorrells Battles of Slocomb passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Orange Park, FL. She was 84. 


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Slocomb City Cemetery with Dr. J. Chris Adams officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. 


Mrs. Battles was born September 21, 1930 in Geneva County to the late Otis and Jewell Justice Sorrells. Maxine was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Slocomb. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. 


In addition to her parents, her husband, Ouidas Milton Battles and a brother, Calvin Sorrells preceded her in death. 


Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jo Price, Orange Park, FL; a son, Ronald Battles (Sally), Valdosta, GA; five grandsons: Joshua Price, Adam Price, Eli Battles (Ashley), Scott Battles (Rachel) and Andrew Thurston (Jennifer); two great-grandsons: Griffen Battles and Reid Battles; two brothers: Pat Sorrells (Judy) and K.B. “Ken” Sorrells (Dee); several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
