Metha Peters Chalker, a resident of Dothan, went home to meet her Savior surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at her home following an extended illness. She was 85.


Funeral services for Mrs. Chalker will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Wallace Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680 North Canton, Ohio 44720 or Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110 Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Chalker was born in Houston County on May 13, 1930, to the late Thomas J. and Lula Mae Thomley Peters. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as Treasurer for many years and a member of Grace Sunday School class. Mrs. Chalker will be remembered as the best wife, Grandmother and friend ever.


Mrs. Chalker is preceded in death by her husband, F. Clarence Chalker; parents; four sisters and four brothers.


Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Cochran, Dothan, Shirley McGowan and her husband, Tim, Pace, FL; three grandchildren, Jon Cochran, Dothan, Brandi McGowan, Pace, FL, Corey McGowan, Pace, FL; great grandson Logan “the boy” McGowan; many nieces, nephews and friends.


Pallbearers will be the Dempsey Seay Sunday School Class and honorary pallbearers will be the Grace Sunday School Class.


The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Westside Terrace Rehab and Covenant Hospice for their love and care shown to Mrs. Chalker.
