Mildred Aniece Griffin Yelverton was born in Perry County, Alabama on
August 8, 1928. She grew up and finished high school in Marion and
then graduated from Alabama College (now University of Montevallo) and
earned MA and MLS degrees from the University of Alabama. She taught
high school before becoming a librarian and retired as director of the
Judson College Library.

During tenure as library director at Judson College, she served as
executive director of Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame, housed at Judson.
After retirement, she published a book about the first twenty-five
women inducted, They Also Served.

Mildred married Clyde E. Yelverton of Uniontown, where they lived
until they retired and moved to Montgomery in 1990. They moved to
Dothan in 2001 where she became a member of Covenant United Methodist
Church.

She is predeceased by her parents, the late Judge James C. Griffin and
Mrs. Annie Lee Harris Griffin and her husband of fifty-five years,
Clyde E. Yelverton, a son, Stanley Griffin Yelverton, and brothers,
William Byrd Griffin, and James C. Griffin, and sisters, Eleanor
Frances Griffin and Mary G. Auburtin.

She is survived by a son, Clyde E. Yelverton, Jr., and his wife, Robin
of Dothan and a son, James W. (Jim) Yelverton of Venice, FL, four
grandchildren, Lindsay and James Yelverton of Venice, Andrea and Clyde
E. (Brother) Yelverton, III of Dothan, two sisters: Rebecca Culpepper
of Demopolis, and Elizabeth Griffin of Augusta, GA; two
sister-in-laws, Linda Jackson of Montgomery and Laverne Griffin of
Loganville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews in Alabama,
Georgia, Florida, Washington and California.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 1:00 pm in the Fellowship
Hall, Covenant Methodist Church with a brief Celebration of Life
service following at 2:00 pm, Hays McKay and Kyle Gatlin officiating.
Graveside service will be Wednesday 3:00 pm Rosemont Cemetery, Uniontown,
AL, Dan Thornton officiating


Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the March of Dimes,


Wounded Warriors, or Covenant United Methodist Church.
