Mrs. Minnie Jewel Smith Dowling went home to be with her Lord August 19, 2013, at Extendicare in Dothan. She was 91.
Homegoing services will be Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 3 P.M. with visitation from 2 to 3 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. The Reverend Coley Holloway and Mike Lawson will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will be gathered and receive friends at 113 Teal Trail, Dothan.
Mrs. Dowling was born December 28, 1921, in Houston County, Alabama, in the Bay Springs Community and is a lifelong resident of the area. Her most important job was being an excellent mother to her two daughters, consistently being involved in their lives and teaching them about the Lord. She continued to be a godly, loving influence in the life of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Raymond Dowling; her mother and father, Early and Eunice Smith; her brothers, T.J. Smith, Grady Smith, and David Smith; and her sister, Audrey May Smith Turner.
She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Dowling Hatcher (James) and Diane Dowling of Dothan; a brother, Ray Smith (Catherine) of Hoover; a sister, Myra Faye Hall of Malvern; two grandchildren, Michael Hatcher (Jennifer) of Ozark, Michelle Lopez of Dothan; and four beloved great-grandchildren, Jamie Lopez, Emily, Rebekah, and Aidan Hatcher.
The family would also like to thank a special niece, Mary Ann Turner McGrady of Dothan, for he loving support during this time.
