On the morning of June 28, 2024, Miriam Cutchen Knight passed away peacefully, at the age of 93. Her daughter, Jorli Knight Leblanc and husband Andy were at her bedside.
Miriam was the proud mother of two children, Glenn David Knight and Jorli Knight LeBlanc; Grandmother to five; Step Grandmother to two; and Great-Grandmother to six. She was the oldest daughter of Clara Bell Cutchen and Oliver Martin Barnabus “Barney,” in a family of four girls and three boys. Miriam lost her mother at the age of seven. Her Father’s sister, Emma Cutchen, moved in with them and cared for the children. They were loved and cared for by their Aunt Emma until approximately a year later, when Barney married Margaret Lucille Cutchen and the seven children were blessed with a loving mother.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband David Leroy Knight (2012); her mother Clara Bell Cutchen, her father Barney Cutchen and Step-Mother Lucille Cutchen; her sister Betty Cutchen Rutledge and brothers Barney Lee Cutchen and Robert Eugene Cutchen.
She is survived by her son Glenn David Knight (Carolyn) of Dothan; her daughter, Jorli Knight LeBlanc (Andy) of Glynn, Louisiana; sisters, Marjorie Cutchen Crowley, and Faye Cutchen; her brother John Thomas Cutchen; and her grandchildren; Adam Wales, Megan Wales Verrett (Quinn), Joshua Knight (Tanja), Marci Knight Nichols (Richard), Lindi Knight Brown (Jeff), step-grandchildren Eric LeBlanc, Sam LeBlanc (Whitney) and six great grandchildren.
Miriam was an exceptional southern cook and a great seamstress. She also loved gardening and growing beautiful roses. On Sundays, she would frequently take a bouquet of roses to church for the stage.
Miriam and David loved to travel. Following David’s military service as a paratrooper in WWII, he was employed by the FAA as an air traffic controller. They lived in New Orleans, LA and Montgomery, AL before moving to the Panama Canal Zone in 1961. The family loved living in Panama and stayed for ten years. In Panama the family enjoyed boating, water skiing, and fishing from their rented island in Gatun Lake.
The family returned stateside in 1970 to settle in Greer, South Carolina. David retired from the FAA in 1977, when they returned to Dothan to build their final home and get married in the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Temple, in Atlanta, GA.
Always active in the LDS Church, Miriam taught Sunday School and was active in Relief Society. She loved the Lord and always set an example of Christ’s love, forgiveness and charity.
Special love and gratitude go to The Heart of Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA, but especially to Jequelle Varise, Charnetra Ervin and Pamela Williams for the wonderful, sweet and loving care they gave Miriam, especially when she was very sick. She would also want to express much love and appreciation to her son-in-law, Andy LeBlanc, for welcoming her into his home and always being there for her, giving her constant love, and for all the help he provided Jorli in caring for her.
