Mrs. Miriam Rebecca Hicks Christmas, age 94, a resident of Cottonwood, died suddenly Friday December 11, 2015.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday December 14, 2015 at the Cottonwood First Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Bolin and Dr. Charles Christmas, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.
The family will be receiving friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Cottonwood First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 427, Cottonwood, Al. 36320.
Mrs. Christmas was born on November 15, 1921 in Cottonwood the daughter of Dr. Dorman Marvin Hicks and Madie Lee Ward Hicks. She was a past Executive director of the the Cottonwood Housing Authority and was a homemaker most of her adult life. Mrs. Christmas was a 1939 graduate of Cottonwood High School and a 1942 graduate of Huntingdon College. She was a member of the Cottonwood First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. & Mrs. D.M. Hicks and a daughter, Becky Steele.
Survivors include: Husband of 73 years, Joe Christmas, Cottonwood; 2 daughters, Sheryl Christmas, Cottonwood; Patricia Carter, Cottonwood; 5 grandchildren, Blake Hall (Jenny), Florence, Al.; Tyson Carter (Kelly), Dothan; Clay Carter (Mamie), Cottonwood; Dana Hill & Maria Blaxton, both of Danville, Al.; 6 great-grandchildren, Owen Carter, Emma Carter, Claire Carter, Talmadge Hall, Caleb Hill, and MaRay Blaxton.
Active pallbearers will be: Blake Hall, Tyson Carter, Clay Carter, James Killingsworth, Billy Max Hall and Boyd Childree.
Honorary pallbearer will be Ronnie Owens.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
