Mrs. Myra Cameron Metcalf, 97, a resident of Dothan, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at her residence with her family by her side.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church Chapel, with Dr. Taylor Rutland officiating. Burial will follow at Cotton Hill Cemetery in Midland City with Glover Funeral Home of Dothan directing. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m., prior to the service in the church chapel.


Mrs. Metcalf was born in Houston County on August 1, 1927, to Harvey Eldridge Cameron, Sr. & Lola Mae (Frith) Cameron. She spent the early years of her life in Cottonwood and was the Valedictorian of the 1945 graduating class at Cottonwood High School. Following high school she attended Business College and worked as a bookkeeper for Newberry’s, Dothan Oil Mill Company (DOMCO), Air Conditioning Associates and was the co-owner of House of Living, an original tenant at Northside Mall. She loved The Lord, her family, playing bridge, and Alabama Football...”Roll Tide!” Mrs. Metcalf was a member of First Baptist Church and taught elementary grade Sunday School for over 25 years.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, B.C. Metcalf; her daughter-in-law, Jan Metcalf; and two brothers, Harvey Eldridge Cameron, Jr. & George Robert Cameron.


She is survived by her two sons, Cameron A. Metcalf (Beth) of Dothan, and Jeffrey M. Metcalf of Dothan; her daughter, Dena Metcalf Malugen (Joe) of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Anna M. Stinchcum (David), Abby M. Sheff (Sean), Audrey M. Meuleman (Shannon), Connor D. Metcalf (Kristy), Jeslyn M. Nicodemus (Luke), Jared M. Metcalf (Robyn), Charles T. Malugen, and Jackson H. Malugen; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Cameron Merritt (John) of Louisville, KY; one brother, Billy Seaborn Cameron (Martha) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and one sister-in-law, Betty Sellers Cameron of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.


Serving as active pallbearers, Jared M. Metcalf, Connor D. Metcalf, Charles T. Malugen, Jackson H. Malugen, Noah W. Sheff, David W. Stinchcum, Sean R. Sheff, E. Shannon Meuleman, and Luke D. Nicodemus.


Serving as honorary pallbearers, Nathan R. Sheff, Jeremiah D. Meuleman, William H. Stinchcum, Judah D. Meuleman, Declan H. Nicodemus, S. Page Todd, and Clifton A. Smith.


The family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff of DaySpring Hospice and to her caregivers, Delores Harris, Charlie Mae Turner, and Kizzy Russ.
