Mrs. Nelma Reece Shields of Hartford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 24, 2013.  She was 87.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Jessie Hobbs and Rev. Glen Tate officiating.  Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Angel of America's Fallen, 10010 Devonwood Ct., Colorado Springs, CO 80920.


 Mrs. Shields was born in Geneva County on July 29, 1925 to the late Alto and Bessie Capps Smith.  Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Shields was employed as an examiner at Phillips-Van Heusen.  She loved the Lord.  She lived for Christ and for her family. She offered food to everyone who entered her home, and she refused to let them without taking something with them.  Everyone enjoyed her biscuits which she made perfectly each and every time.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lehmon Shields; daughter, Betty Newman; and sister, Waunette McLaney. 


 She is survived by her son, Phillip Shields of Hartford; three daughters, Merial Owens (Don) of Hosford, FL, Sybil Lewis (John) of Geneva and Connie McClenny of Hartford; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two brothers, Lamar Smith (Becky) of Montgomery and Duron Smith of Wetumpka; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
