Mrs. Norma Joan Howell, age 73, of Ariton, Alabama died Sunday, April 2, 2023, at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Iron City, Tennessee, living most of her life in Vidalia. She graduated from Tuley High School in Chicago and later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Brewton- Parker College. Mrs. Norma was employed as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Brewton-Parker College and later retired from Central Georgia Technical College. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Brundige, Alabama. She enjoyed doing whatever her grandson wanted to do, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, substitute teaching at Ariton Schools in Alabama, visiting with family and friends, play family games and she especially loved to travel. She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, James Thomas Howell, Jr.; parents, Luther Franklin and Eunice Sims Franklin; and brothers, Randy Franklin, Dwight Franklin and Dewayne Franklin.
Her family includes her son, Jason Howell and wife Jamie of Ozark, Alabama; one grandson, Hunter Howell of Ozark, Alabama; one brother, Ricky Franklin of Dublin; four sisters, Betty Key of Dublin, Carolyn Dollins of Holcomb, Missouri, Wanda Wallace and husband Robert of Iron City, Tennessee, and Nita Kruger of Dublin; and several, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7th at the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Don Gibbs officiating and Pastor Dave Walsh assisting. Burial will follow in the Center Community Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 7th one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 156, Vidalia, GA 30475.
