Oleta Johnson Smart, a resident of Columbus, Georgia and formerly Dothan, died Wednesday March 12, 2014 at Summer’s Landing Assisted Living in Columbus. She was 97.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smart will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 14, 2014 at Cloverdale United Methodist Church with Reverend Bob Yawn officiating. Burial will follow in Bonifay City cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Smart was born to the late George C. and Sallie Ammons Johnson May 11, 1916 in Bonifay, Florida. She moved to Dothan in 1957 and worked at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Mrs. Smart was the first CRNA and Chief Nurse Anesthetist for 20 years. She was a member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years and served on many committees.
Mrs. Smart is preceded in death by her husband, Mac O. Smart and three brothers, Dan, Sam and Earl.
Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Jean Smart Burnett, Columbus, GA; special friends, Roy Cooley, Ashford, Louise Mills, Columbia, and several nieces and nephews.
