Oma Wallace Bass, a resident of Kinsey, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. She was 87.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bass will be held at 11 AM Saturday April 1, 2017 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Joel Snell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted.
Oma was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Reverend William Riley and Flora Lolley Wallace. She grew up and attended school in Cahaba Heights. Oma married Sgt. David Bass in 1954, which led to a fulfilling life including living in Germany and the Panama Canal. She dedicated her entire life to serving others. Oma enjoyed cooking, decorating, entertaining and hosting special events. She was a member of Kinsey Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bass is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a daughter, Shirley Bass Black.
She leaves behind with many wonderful memories her husband of 63 years, David Bass; daughter, Virginia Bass Boutwell (Steve); son in law, Tim Black; granddaughters, Rachel Povlacs (Larry), Natalie McLaughlin (Brian), Danielle Van Slyke (Robert), Desarae Roland (Jordan Lovett), Allison and Arianna Boutwell; grandson, David Prokopchuk; great grandchildren, Evan and Patrick Povlacs, Carter Deese, Emily Van Slyke, Kobi and Molli Prokopchuk; a brother, Joe Wallace (Lanthe).
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Boutwell, Larry Povlacs, Robert Van Slyke, Jordan Lovett, Justin Boutwell, and Brian McLaughlin.
