Mrs. Opal Bernice Thompson of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Flowers Hospital after a short illness.  She was 90.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Denton Road United Methodist Church with Reverend John Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to the Denton Road United Methodist Church or to the Humane Society.


 


She is survived by her husband of 43 years, E. C.  (Tom) Thompson; her daughter Marcia Rhinehart; her son Jimmy Rhinehart and her Grandson, Captain Robert Allen and his wife Kristy and many of her sisters and brothers.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Luella and Chet Swisher and her first husband, Major James W. Rhinehart who was killed in a helicopter accident in 1965. Opal loved working in her yard and taking care of her beautiful flowers.


She had many friends and family members both here in the Dothan area, Michigan, and throughout the United States. One thing many did not know was that she worked on assembly lines during World War II as one of the original “ Rosie Riveters “ assembling parts for aircraft. She will be greatly missed by all.
