Peggy Collins Hedrick, a beacon of selfless love and unwavering spirit, passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on January 9, 1935, Peggy’s 89 years on this earth were marked by a passion for life that touched everyone she met. Her final days were spent surrounded by the warmth of her loving family, as she concluded a graceful battle with an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service.

In Lieu of Flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in honor of Peggy Hedrick to Calvary Baptist Church Mission Fund, 907 Montezuma Avenue, DothanAL 36303.

Peggy was a devoted daughter to her late parents, Mack and Exie Collins. She was the cherished sister of Annie Laura Shiver and Jean Longgrear, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her respected brothers-in-law, JD Shiver and James Longgrear.

Peggy’s legacy continues through her loving son, Bobby Hedrick (Terri), and her adoring daughters, Marla Hedrick Wood (Barton) and Tammy Hedrick Darrow (Chuck). Her life was further enriched by the joy brought by her grandchildren, Taylor Wood, Bailey Wood, Davis Darrow, Annika Hedrick, and Kate Hedrick. She held a special place in her heart for her nephews, Dara Longgrear and Dale Longgrear, and she leaves behind a host of friends whose lives she impacted profoundly.

A graduate of Wicksburg High School class of 1953, Peggy went on to serve with dedication at Dothan Bank and Trust, which later became Regions Bank, and at Gayfers, now known as Dillard’s. She concluded her professional journey with the family of WDHN, retiring at the age of 85. Her commitment to her colleagues was evident in the many holidays she spent hosting the staff of WDHN, creating a work environment that felt more like a family.

A steadfast member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1963, Peggy lived her life as a testament to the Lord’s work. She never met a stranger, for in each face, she saw a child of God. Her selfless nature knew no bounds, as she loved passionately and deeply, always placing others before herself. A fantastic cook, her table was a place of communion and fellowship, where all were welcome.

Peggy cared for others with a Christ-like devotion, living out the principle "I am third," with the Lord first, others second, and herself last. Her garden was a reflection of her soul, blooming with the same care and attention she gave to every living thing. An avid Auburn fan, her spirit was as spirited as the cheer of the crowd on game day.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Peggy’s health care teams, who provided her with exceptional care and support throughout her illness. Their dedication and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength.
