OZARK… Mrs. Peggy Walker Riley Ard, a resident of Ozark, died Tuesday morning, June 14, 2022, in an Ozark nursing home. She was 91.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 16, 2022, in the Newton Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Burial will follow in Bell’s Crossroads Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ard, daughter of the late Ray Walker and Cleta Godwin Walker, was a native of the Marley Mill Community, near Ozark. She was a graduate of Dale County High School in Ozark and attended Moody Bible Institute. Mrs. Ard was formerly employed with Dale Medical Center where she was a surgical nurse. She and her husband owned and operated Joel & Peggy’s Grocery and also Peggy’s Grocery in Ozark for many years. Mrs. Ard was a member of the Newton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joel Riley and Thomas Ard; a brother, Royce Walker; stepchildren, Doug Ard and Joan Ard Underwood.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Lisa Ard Brackett (Chris); sister-in-law, Shirley Peters Walker, all of Ozark; three grandchildren, Dr. Carrie Brackett, Solomon Brackett, and Allyson Brackett; several nieces and nephews.
