Mrs. Retha Nell Mims Ellenburg of Geneva went home to be with her Savior, surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 20, 2015. She was 77.
Mrs. Ellenburg was born August 23, 1937, in Holmes County Florida to the late James Francis and Lecie Lorraine Myers Mims. She was a loving mother and grandmother who never met a stranger and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She was an active member of Geneva First Assembly in Geneva. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was involved in the Woman’s Ministry, was a nursery volunteer and was an encourager to others. She lived her life guided by her deep personal faith in God. She was known as a valiant prayer warrior and was the “Amen Corner” for her pastor. She was an excellent example of the woman in Proverbs 31 who had a strong character, great wisdom, extended her hand to help others and clothed herself with strength & dignity.
Mrs. Ellenburg was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters and the father of her children, Harold Gene Ellenburg.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara Martin (Don), Dothan, Linda Hornsby (Ricky), Geneva and Tracie Jordan (Scott), Black; one son, David Ellenburg, Geneva; four sisters: Blanch Brock, Pensacola, FL, Dahlia Clark, Pace, FL, Bammer Thomas, Westville, FL. and Willene Boyd (Gary), Geneva; one brother, R.V. Mims (Mary), Clearwater, FL; seven grandchildren: Chelsie Teat (Tim), Mission, TX, Christopher Martin (Katie) Phenix City, Zachary Ellenburg, St. Louis, MO, Shane Ellenburg (Ashley), Chancellor, Brittnay Hornsby, Geneva, Braeden Jordan and Brianna Jordan both of Black; four great-grandchildren; a special niece & caregiver, Tisha Tate; several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Scott Crooms & Rev. Calvin Sherrouse officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zach Ellenburg, Shane Ellenburg, David Ellenburg, Christopher Martin, Don Martin, Ricky Hornsby & Scott Jordan.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the Wiregrass Nursing Home staff for the love, compassion & dedication that was shown in the care of their mother & grandmother. Also, a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice & their staff for the wonderful care of our loved one.
