Mrs. Ruth Parker McPherson of S. Johnson Street, Samson, Alabama passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014.  She was 79.


Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Dr. James Preachers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continue until service time.


Mrs. McPherson was born November 27, 1934, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late George and Minnie Ruth McDougald Parker. She earned an Associate Degree from Birmingham Business School.  For 15 years she was the church clerk and pianist at Calvary Baptist Church and later was the pianist at Mt. Carmel for seven years.  During her working career she worked with the Department of Tactics at Ft. Rucker.  She was awarded the rank of Honorary LTC in Governor Wallace’s National Guard.


In addition to her parents, a brother, William E. Parker, preceded her in death.


Survivors include her husband, Robert McPherson of Samson; four children: Kenneth N. Murphy of Samson, Timothy B. McPherson of Gulf Shores, Christopher and Adam J. McPherson of Samson; one brother, Rex O’Neal (June) Parker of Alex City; four grandchildren: Kendal Marie and Page Leeann Murphy, Jessie and Dodge McPherson; other extended family and friends.
