ARITON…After a blessed and wonderful life of 92 years, Jesus took the precious little hand of Sammy Beasley Carter at her Ariton home on Friday morning, July 21, 2023.  


             The family will receive friends on Sunday 1pm until 2pm at the Ariton Church of Christ. The service will follow visitation. Minister Roger Howell will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens under the direction of Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home in Ozark, Alabama. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Carter Hornsby, Quade Carter and Eli Usry; grandsons-in-law, Robbie Bruce and Josh Wolfe; and great-grandson, Rob Culverhouse.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ariton Church of Christ Media Fund, PO Box 711, Ariton, AL 36311, which supports the Power & The Glory radio program and website reaching across the globe or to the Ariton Fire & Rescue, PO Box 183, Ariton, Alabama, 36311.


             Mrs. Carter was best known by friends and family as Mimi. She was a life-long resident of Ariton and always greatly supported her community. She was an Ariton High School graduate and was an avid Purple Cat fan. She will always be remembered for her independence, her quick wit, her love for Alabama football and her unconditional love for her family. Mimi’s favorite past-times included traveling, celebrating special events, attending church singings and cooking for her family. Mrs. Carter was born November 12, 1930, to George Frank Beasley and Mable Claire Batchelor Beasley in Ariton, Alabama. She had one sister, Frances Beasley Nolin (Guy), all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charlie Francis Carter, Jr. in 2001. After graduating from Ariton High School, she attended Riley Business School in Dothan, Alabama. She was employed with Farmer’s & Merchant’s Bank of Ariton for several years before she and her husband, Charlie, established their own business in the early 1960’s. She then was devoted to managing the office operations of Carter Manufacturing Co., Inc. which produced equipment and contracted entire plants for various types of peanut processing. She retired in 1999 when the business was sold.


           Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jann Carter Phillips and Carl, Cindy Carter Usry and Donald Westbook, all of Ariton and Kym Carter Hornsby and Roger of Dothan, Alabama. One son and daughter-in-law, Chuck Carter and Shannon of Ariton. Eight grandchildren: Sami Jo Phillips Culverhouse of Ariton, Charli Phillips Bruce (Robbie) of Warrior, Alabama, Lexi Phillips Wolfe (Josh) of Dothan, Alabama, Eli Usry of Ozark, Alabama, Carter Hornsby (Candace) of Dothan, Alabama, Taylor Hornsby of Vestavia, Alabama, Quade Carter of Birmingham, Alabama and Kaylee Carter of Ozark, Alabama. Eight great-grandchildren: Rob Culverhouse of Ariton, Harper Bruce, Scarlett Bruce, Ada Bruce and Tripp Bruce all of Warrior, Alabama, Ezra Wolfe, Finn Wolfe and Kenna Hornsby all of Dothan. She is also survived by her niece, June Nolin Wilson (Ron) of Haltom City, Texas, her nephew, Frank Nolin (Lorna) of Mexico Beach, Florida; sister-in-law, Sandra Carter, Dothan; and very special caregivers Teresa Brantley of Ariton, Alabama, Pam McNair of Daleville, Alabama, Nadine McGibbon and Shaquitta Richards, both of Ozark,
